Long overdue!

It seems like I’m always apologizing for my lack of posts. I think you guys get it now that I’m reaaaaly bad in that department. This time, though, I really had a great excuse. If You don’t follow either my June Kramin or Ann T Bugg facebook fan pages (and if you don’t… why not? 😉 ) you have probably missed the fact that we’ve moved.

As for the why, there were several reasons. Top of the list is that I will be a Gram-Bug in January! We shaved an hour off the drive to see our son, daughter-in-law & the wee one to be… not to forget the Granddogs. 😀 After many months of searching, we found a town that offered everything we haven’t had for the last 8 years without driving 2 hours for it. Actually, we are smack in the middle of 2 great towns with only 8 mile drives to get there. My daughter will go to school in one while I work in the other. That’s why we get them a driver’s license, right? 😉

We did downsize by 1/2 a house, so getting everything squared away was a trick. Who knew I was so good at Tetris? We’re still sort of working on it. Hubby will have to arrange a shop of sorts yet but I’m no help there & hey… I got blogging to do! heh heh

Here’s the backyard. It goes to the evergreens.
We lost a few acres as well but this feels bigger since we don’t have all the outbuilding we used to.

Of course I got right to unpacking the important things. You may remember this from a previous blog.I needed my one “comfort” in the new digs.

Okay, 2. We drove a 1/2 hr to get another curio that I found on Craigslist for a collection that has been in boxes for years. This is just the Disney ones – I need another 1, probably 2, for the rest of them. Don’t think that will happen here. I have a toy room set up for visiting kids & lots of “shiny” for the baby to wake up to. (under lock & key of course!)

Unpacking brought several surprises. For now, I’ve indulged myself with a few of the finds on the shelf that I have in the room I’ve claimed for myself.

Yes, that’s the entire Inspector Gadget from McDonalds from 80…something. My daughter said, “Since when did you have Spongebob Barbie?” LOL… I have no idea. There’s Crazy Cat Lady & a.. wait for it… yodeling pickle from the same looney friend, my last Blue from Blues Clues that I cannot part with, one of dozens of Humuhumunukunukuapua’a (say that 3 times fast) & a whole bunch of random things not even pictured.. I can’t wait to see what surprises other boxes bring me.

Just a wee insight to to crazy lady that is me. Some of these pics created quite a stir on facebook. No, I’m not normal. This is not a newsflash. Trust me, you do not want to see my song playlist. 😉

To actually talk some writing here – book #5 will be out within 2 weeks – right on schedule!! Stay tuned. You’ll hear it here 1st!

Back to School Blog Hop!

When my friends at our facebook group came up with the idea to do this hop, I didn’t know my post would be so “spot on” for the back to school theme.

This is an exciting new school year for us. We’re moving & my daughter is starting a new school. There is a great art department there – major bonus for her. If this is your first exposure with my books, my daughter is my cover artist & illustrator. That just makes these books that much more special since she is also the Valerie of the Valerie and Samantha of the series.

I’m writing this post from Delaware. We did the 24 hr road trip for a cousin’s wedding. So, not only will she be the new kid, she’ll be the late kid. Adapt & overcome! It’s exciting either way and she is certainly brave to me. I don’t know a lot of Juniors that would be willing to start a new school. I guess the experience will have to make it into one of the books in the series. 😀

Book #1

My Before Happily Ever After series is geared for the middle grade audience, although it has been enjoyed by various ages – men and women alike. They are retellings of favorite fairy tales and folklore. Each book is a stand alone so if Snow White isn’t your thing (Book 1), you could pick up #3 to read a fun new twist on a King Arthur tale. (Of course once you get a feel for the girls, you’ll want to read another to catch their next zany antic!)

My giveaway for the hop is any book of your choice. US can have print or e, international e-only please. Click the raffle copter link below to enter.

There is a tab above to read more about the details of all the books. #5 is due out in October. It’s a fun new twist on the Jack & the Beanstalk tale. I love the new take on the giants! I think I always say “it’s one of my favorites” with the new releases. I’m sure each one becomes my new favorite – until the next one comes along. Two more of Val’s friends made their way in this one, maybe that’s why I love it even more. 🙂

Children’s, YA, & MG Blog Hop!

Hello!! Stop the presses… I’m blogging!!! 🙂

I have been asked by a friend to participate in a blog hop for children’s, middle grade , and young adult authors. I have been tagged by children’s author Cordelia Dinsmore. In order to participate, I answer some interview questions and tag three other authors. You can find Cordelia’s blog and answers here.

Here are the interview questions and my answers:

1. What are you working on right now?

I always have a few pots on the fire. I’ve just started to edit book #5 in my series so I can figure out what I want for illustrations from my daughter, as well as give it the usual beating & finishing touches. I’ve also been revisiting the prequel that I have been toying with. Add writing a sequel to a women’s fiction that comes out in Nov & you’ll see what I mean about those pots!

2. How does it differ from other works in its genre?

Like the rest of my MG series, Val & Sam bring craziness to the familiar stories like only they can. This is one I really love. As you can guess by the cover it’s a Jack & the Beanstalk tale. It takes quite a different twist bringing the world of humans & giants together with the help of my duo of double-trouble! There are a few “fairy tale re-told” adaptations out there, but is just something about their silliness that brings these stories to a whole new level.

3. Why do you write what you do?

My daughter, Valerie, & her best friend, Samantha, were the inspiration for this series. The responses I got from them after finishing the 1st one is what kept me going. I found myself wanting to put all their silly antics & ditties in print! When I re-read these books I think “parents everywhere are going to kill me when their kids start doing this stuff”. LOL The latest admission from Val was marshmallow peep wars in the microwave. You bet that made it into one of the books! 🙂

Val & Sam
Sam on the left – Val on the right.
This about two years into their friendship – one of my favorite pictures of them.

4. How does your writing process work?

I really don’t have any set process. I write when I can & when an idea smacks me with a 2×4. More often than not, I have no idea where the story will take me. I let things play out page by page & it has always fallen into place. The girls seem to know what they are doing whether they are helping a princess or battling trolls. Something usually happens with them in real life in between books & I’ll find a way to go back & add it in there. They are great motivators for new ideas!

I would like to thank Melody for tagging me and thank all of you for stopping by. Please visit her blog and the blogs of the three people I tag to keep this progressive hop going!

YA author Melanie Hooyenga

YA author Minday Hardwick

And MG author Paul R. Hewlitt

The friends I have tagged will make their post next week on September 19th. Please show your support by leaving a comment as you hop from site to site!

Thank you & have fun!

99¢ summer reads!

I’ve recently teamed up with a small, select group of indie writers of Tween fiction. Tween is that no-man’s land of children’s literature that falls between the upper range of MG and the not-quite-ready for YA – the entire list is clean writing of which your parents would approve. Although my books are rated for Middle Grade, they let me hop on with them. My series starts at a 8 year old reading level, but grows with the child. They have been loved by ages from 8-80 so I’m grateful they are letting me play along!

These books cover a wide array of genres within the age range, including fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, and mystery.

The group has been working on a new blog project, which they are calling Emblazon. You’ll soon be able to find it on WordPress. There they will offer lots of fun and informative posts for young readers and their parents, along with links to other sites that we are confident will be of interest to our audience.

As a kind of kick-off celebration, many of them are offering a selection of ebooks at a special price of only 99¢ each! Many of them will be at that special price beginning June 17th and running through June 21st. That’s five days to fill up your readers with some fun and exciting books! The 1st book in my series has been 99¢ for a while, as a kick-off to book #4’s release.

I realize summer is a busy time, but it’s also a fantastic time to catch up on some new books. What could be easier than to load up your favorite ereader with a variety of fun new reads and take it along on your summer outings?

I’ll be adding links to this post over the next few days for the books that are being offered at this amazing low price. I hope you find something to your liking, and I hope you tell all your friends. There are some great looking covers here. All the titles in the list below are links – click away!!

Blurb: There is no magic mirror around, no sign of a frog or a possum, as Valerie and Samantha get ready for a canoe trip down the river with Val’s dad. As they wait for him by the river, their world transforms before their eyes. Through the stormy sky, a dragon approaches. With the help of a young man who suddenly appears, they take cover.

Discovering a baby dragon hidden in his knapsack and his intentions with it, they know what they are sent here to do. They didn’t expect the task at the end of their adventure: to help awaken a sleeping princess.

Book #4 is out!

I’ve been holding off on the news, waiting for it to be available everywhere, but I’m getting impatient & anxious. Big surprise there, huh? 😉

Number 4 in the series, Down the River and Awakening the Rose, is now available. It is at Smashwords in all e-formats, Amazon for Kindle, Kobo, and other e-retailers. I am waiting on a final print proof this week then print will also be available. The whole series has been re-done – I love the new backs to the printed copies!

As always, Val & Sam grow a little with each book. This time the stakes are upped more than a smidge, dealing with a very wicked queen. Just a touch of dark magic to batter here. I’m sure you can take it. This one is probably Valerie’s favorite since it has her favorite creature – a dragon.

Hope you enjoy it!
